M is a 19 year old Afro-Latiné nonbinary organizer born and raised in San Diego, CA. They are passionate about intersectionality, gender justice, racial equity, and reptiles + amphibians.
M started their local advocacy work in 2015, facilitating info sessions and creating LGBTQ+ training content for educators and administrators at the San Diego Unified School District. During that time, they also worked with GLSEN San Diego on event organizing and general youth programming. They then moved their activism to a national scale after they were accepted onto the 2017-18 cohort of GLSEN’s National Student Council, where they worked in tandem with 18 other youth organizers on days of action such as Day of Silence, Latinx Heritage Month, LGBTQ+ History Month, and No Name-Calling Week.
Today, M is working as the Youth Programs Coordinator at San Diego Pride and as a member of the 2020 Trans Youth (TRUTH) Council cohort. M’s work is intersectional and focuses on utilizing privilege to hold up marginalized people/identities through education and abolition of power structures in society.
